Description

The better direct care workers understand HIV, the better they can support and educate clients.  Research shows that client understanding of HIV increases adherence and health outcomes.  At the end of the workshop learners will be able to: (1) Explain the life cycle of HIV, (2) Identify HIV transmission and risk factors, (3) Identify the dynamics and limitations of HIV testing, (4) Identify different labs, (5) Explain the basics of HIV treatment, and (6) Explain the basics of HIV medication and side effects.

Hey Melinda, I know you packed a lot of relevant and useful information in to this HIV 101 presentation, however, some of the information is out of date. A prime example is TaSP, or U=U. It's listed in this presentation that there is no "safe level of undetectable and that being undetectable can still transmit" the virus. In July of 2021 the CDC updated their guidance based on the Partner studies. I realize you're probably already aware of all this - but if not, I would be happy to help in any way I can -Jake
