Who is this program for?

The Healthcare Certificate Program (HCP) is for anyone working in healthcare: Case Managers, Patient Navigators, Peer Support Specialists, Nurses, Doctors, etc.

What you’ll learn:                                                                             

The HCP provides foundational knowledge and skills that support work in healthcare. The curriculum includes the following.

INSTRUCTOR-LED HCP VIDEOS

  1. Introduction: An overview of the Healthcare Certificate Program (HCP)
  2. Best Practices: Discussion re: best practices, ethical care, self care, cultural competence; & identification of your strengths & areas for growth – 1 hour, 10 min.
  3. Healing (Trauma) Informed Self Care: Identification of the impact stress, trauma, secondary trauma, burnout & compassion fatigue have on healthcare professionals; as well as practical approaches toward a plan to stay well in the field – 1.5 hours
  4. Healing (Trauma) Informed Care: Examination of how stress/trauma impact us all with a focus on working with practical approaches in work with participants who have active stress/trauma – 2 hours
  5. Engagement & Retention in Care: Information to define Medical Self Management, the importance of & strategies to ensure Engagement & Retention in Care using Motivational Interviewing (MI) & other approaches – 1 hour, 40 min.
  6. Health Literacy & Adherence: Exploration of approaches that support participant knowledge about the issue(s) they are exploring (health literacy) & strategies to effectively address the issue(s) in the short & long run (adherence) – 1 hour, 20 min.

ONLINE SELF PACED HCP TRAININGS

  1. Reducing Stress Through Self Care: A Trauma Informed examination of self care to help insulate you from the stress, trauma, secondary trauma, burnout & compassion fatigue associated with work in healthcare – 1 hour
  2. Helper as a Person: Examination of professional boundaries, transference & counter transference, and the importance of wellness as a healthcare professional – 15 min.
  3. Therapeutic Communication: Identification of basic elements of communication, obstacles to communication, and fundamental skills toward effective communication – 40 min.
  4. Multiculturalism: An overview of the importance of being a culturally competent professional, as well as approaches that support cultural competence - 1 hour, 10 minutes)
  5. Approaches to Difficult Situations: Exploration of behavioral escalation & the verbal escalation continuum, along with strategies toward de-escalation – 30 min.
  6. HIV 101 (can be waived upon request): Explanation of key terms and knowledge re: HIV/AIDS & treatment – 1 hour
  7. Mandatory Reporting: Definitions of informed consent, duty to warn, and mandatory reporting including at-risk adults – 45 min.
  8. Service Planning: Examination of the service planning cycle, including how to write measurable objectives & re-engagement plans – 40 min.
  9. Stages of Change: Practical application of approaches for each stage of change of experienced by participants in healthcare- 40 min.
  10. Harm Reduction: Application of approaches to client-centered care that lean toward participant desires without pushing – 30 min.

Why the HCP?

The HealthCare Professional (HCP) Certificate Program (previously Medical Case Management, MCM, Certificate Program) is based on best practices, as well as input from direct service personnel & organizations. The goal of the HCP Certificate Program is to provide learners with a strong knowledge base and clinical skill set to succeed with the diverse set of client needs inherent to the work of direct care workers.

HIV/AIDS is a central theme throughout which highlights applicability to specific issues, and Motivational Interviewing (MI) approaches are provided for practical skills acquisition/maintenance.
